Ollie Mccarthy - General Committee

Ollie is one of the original members of BDU, having played in the club’s very first tournament and remaining part of the Lightning family ever since. His journey has taken him from player to coach and now to helping coordinate the development of many players across BDU.

Basketball has always been a huge part of Ollie’s life. His playing career has included Phoenix Ballarat, Ballarat Miners, Vic Country, Sunbury Youth League and the Maryborough Blazers, while he continues to take the court for BDU.

Ollie’s experience and passion for player development make him a fantastic mentor for our young athletes. He brings plenty of basketball knowledge, but just as importantly, an ability to connect with players and help build their confidence and love of the game.

Away from basketball, Ollie is a talented musician who writes and creates his own music. He has also built a career in nursing, caring for and supporting people throughout the wider Ballarat community.

Whether he’s playing, coaching, creating music, caring for others or helping behind the scenes at BDU, Ollie brings passion and heart to everything he does. From one of BDU’s first players to helping develop our next generation — Ollie’s Lightning journey has come full circle.
