court time

BDU Lightning is committed to giving every athlete meaningful opportunities to develop their skills, gain game experience and contribute to their team.

Tournament selection
Where possible, teams will generally select eight players per team for tournaments. Smaller tournament squads can help provide players with more opportunities to participate and contribute during games.

Playing-time expectations
Across the tournament, athletes should receive an average of at least 15 minutes of court time per game. This is an average across all games, so playing time may be higher in some games and lower in others.

Playing time can vary depending on the score, the level of competition, game circumstances, team balance, player development, effort, attitude and coaching decisions.

Equal court time is not guaranteed.
Representative basketball is competitive, and equal court time is not guaranteed. Coaches are responsible for making rotation decisions that support both player development and the team’s needs.

Every selected athlete has an important role, whether they are on the court or supporting their teammates from the bench.

BDU Lightning encourages players and families to value teamwork, effort, development and a positive team environment.
