Coaching Structure

The BDU Lightning coaching program is overseen by Club President Troy McCarthy, who provides leadership, guidance and support to our coaching group.

Each age group is allocated a Head Coach, who is primarily responsible for coaching the one of the teams while also providing guidance and oversight to the other teams and coaches within their age group. This structure helps ensure consistency in coaching standards, player development and the overall direction of our basketball program.

Each team is also allocated a Team Manager, who assists with communication, administration and tournament coordination.

All BDU Lightning coaches are volunteers who generously dedicate their time, knowledge and experience to developing our athletes and giving back to the sport. We recognise that recruiting and retaining quality coaches is increasingly challenging, making our coaching group an incredibly valuable part of our club.

BDU Lightning is committed to supporting our coaches by providing the resources, guidance and development opportunities they need to deliver a positive, inclusive and high-quality basketball experience. We ask all athletes and families to recognise and respect the commitment of our volunteer coaches and the important role they play in the success of our teams and the wider club.
